John Paul II Trail
The place known, thanks to Saint Sister Faustina, who have delivered us her faith to the Jesus in the words: ?Jesus, I Trust In You?.
Her relics are resting in the sanctuary of the God's Mercy in Cracow-Łagiewniki.
On 18th of April 1993, at the Saint Peter?s Square in the Rome, Holy Father John Paul II accomplished the act of her beatification, and 30th of April 2000 of its canonization.
Very dynamic expansion of worship of the Divine Mercy was launched by the beatification of Sister's Faustina and her, and also thanks to pilgrimages of John Paul II, and to Łagiewniki (1997 and 2002). It caused the extension of the Sanctuary i.a. building a new church - basilica, that was consecrated on 17th of August 2002 by Pope John Paul II in 2002. The image quickly became well-known for many graces, the number of pilgrims has grown each year, considering also the pilgrims visiting the Sister Faustina's tomb.
It?s another place of visits of pilgrims from Poland, but specialty to its Sanctuary. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska: the Mannerist Architectural and Park Landscape Complex and Pilgrimage Park, was added in 1999 to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
It was a place of frequent visits of Karol Wojtyła and then Pope John Paul II, who was here twice (in 1979 and 2002).
It is full of symbolic places of worship relating to the Passion of Jesus Christ and the life of the Virgin Mary, was laid out at the beginning of the 17th century ? has remained virtually unchanged. It is still today a place of pilgrimage.
The sanctuary consists of Baroque church ? the one that hold the holy picture of crying Mary, monastery, sets of churches and chapels (also in Baroque style) situated in the hill and incorporated in a beautiful landscape of Beskid Mountains.
Wadowice is best known for being the birthplace of Pope John Paul II. ? 18th of May 1920. The Holy Father Has visited Wadowice Tyree Times (1979, 1991 and 1999). In 2006 Pope Benedict XVI.
